Trunk and Bark

  • Do you have bugs on your trunk?
  • Do you see a split/crack in the bark?
  • Has the bark been injured by mowing equipment, vehicles, or animals?
  • Is there evidence of decay or hollowing of the trunk?
  • Are fungal conks protuding from the trunk?

These issues could be caused by many different problems.

Lightning – When a lightning strike injures one of our prized trees, the results can be devastating. The extent of the injury is related to the intensity of the strike and the texture of the bark.

After a valuable tree is hit, we often wonder what could have been done to prevent the injury. Installation of a lightning protection system in prominent, high value trees can help reduce the threat of lightning damage.

If a tree is cracked or broken to the point of being hazardous, it should be removed immediately.

Storm damage – Storms may cause cracks in limbs or entire trees which can lead them to fall, often landing on homes, cars, other structures or other trees. The weight of storm damaged trees is great and they can be very dangerous to remove or prune.

Paul Bunyan's Tree Service offers a 24-hour emergency service to assist in performing the job safely, while minimizing further risk to your property.

Pest infestation – Trees that are stressed or weakened are susceptible to pest infestations. The first line of defense against pests and diseases is your tree’s health. The healthier a tree or shrub, the better able it will be to fend off pests and diseases.

Our arborists assess the infestation and the tree’s health, and recommend the most effective and environmentally sensitive approach possible. State-of-the-art natural pest controls and dormant oils are among the tools we use to help restore a tree to health.
